Oracy Week
This past week in school has been Oracy Week, with a real focus on speaking and listening...
Oracy is all about developing the ability to speak coherently and effectively for a range of purposes. In order to help develop these we had a couple of workshops this week with special visitors.
The first of these was Tatton Spiller, the founder of 'Simple Politics', who came in to teach the children how to debate. Starting with some simple, 'which do you prefer' questions, he built up the concept of constructing an argument, predicting what the counter-argument could be and developing a statement to dismiss this.
Tatton was extremely impressed by the ability of all the children to verbally justify their thoughts and reasoning.
