Friday 1st of May
Good morning Team Smart!
It’s FFFriday! ! Do you think you can dance with an elephant? Have a go!

Maths:
Recall the number bonds to ten to warm up those mathematical brains of yours. You can know the song, so sing along! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZi-6_-Uhwc or write down as many of the number bonds to 10 (and 20 if you’re already feeling warmed up!) as speedily as you can.
Today you are measuring capacity. You may have experimented with this a bit already from yesterdays learning because I suggested it in the video.
Watch the video on the White Rose website for Lesson 5. Then do the sheet attached below (also on the website under ‘Get activity next to lesson 5). https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/
You can use the sheet as a guy to experiment with measuring capacity.
Remember, Capacity is how big a container is, or how much space there is to fill. Have a play around with a large container and a small container. How many filled small containers will it take to fill up the large container (e.g. a large jug and a small cup)?
English / Read Write Inc
Mrs Smart’s group
Please start by following the video for set 3 sounds today and practising the spellings. If you need to finish your diary entry for The Ugly Duckling you can do that in today’s lesson.
Then I’m going to introduce you to a new book that we will be looking at over the next week or so. It’s called The Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis.
It is an adorable book and you will see how it links to our topic learning. I am going to read you the story so click on this link:
The password is Year1
After you have listened to it have a think about what happens, who the characters are and the theme of the book. I hope you enjoy it!

Topic
Yesterday we looked at environments and thought about what we find in them. If and when you are safely out and about over the next few days, I’d like you to hunt for what lives in your local environment! You are going to be nature explorers!
If you have a magnifying glass at home – or even better a bug collection kit with built-in magnifier – you can use them to help you! We are going to log how many living things we can find environment! But don't worry if you do not have these things.
I have attached a selection of checklists for you to use when you are out and about looking for minibeasts, birds, flowers and trees to help you log your findings! You don’t have to do them all but you might want to! It might depend what you live near to (e.g. beach, park, fields, woods), whether you have a garden or whether you are spotting out of your very own window (I recommend the Urban wildlife sheet in this case)!
Remember you can use tallying to record how many you find! Have fun!

Here is your next set of high frequency sight words. We use them all the time so we need to know how to spell them! We are using the letter names (not the sounds) when we spell these words:
