18/05/2020: Home Learning

It's Monday! Happy Monday!

Learning for today:

PE: Rosie Wicks, Yoga, a long walk later today? Make sure you do a little bit of exercise today!

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 3x and 6x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, chanting, or even bingo.

This week, we are going to continue to use the White Rose Home Learning videos to support us with recapping fraction and decimal learning. Watch the learning video for Lesson 1: Recognise tenths and hundredths: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

Hundredth fractions can be looked at as made up of tenths and hundredths. It is the same principle as when we look at decimals as made up of tenths (0.1s) and hundredth (0.01s) too.

So 27/100 can be understood as made up of 20/100 and 7/100.

20/100 = 2/10 (They are equivalent. Don’t believe me? - Use a hundred square and shade 20/100 and 2/10 – the amounts shaded are exactly the same)

This means 27/100 = 2/10 and 7/100.

Try practising partitioning like this with a) 53/100    b) 89/100    c) 12/100

Done? Try the sheet attached below.

E: Catch up with the story so far: I have added to it and the whole audio and picture book can be found online! You need to get yourself to the unveiling of the clock (basically the end) as today I would like you to write a mini newspaper report. This will be tricky because we have not done this in a while, but there is no harm in having a go!! Your newspaper needs to report on the unveiling of the clock, but you could choose to report on the build-up of its revelation OR on the actual unveiling which turns out to be quite unexpected.

Key features: Newspaper name, date, reporter name, price, Headline, picture with a caption. Paragraphs with indents, include a quote from an onlooker/citizen of Glockenheim/visitor

Orientation: Your opening paragraph needs to include the 5Ws – Who? What? When? Where? Why?  So what happened, when did it happen, where did it happen, who was involved and why is it being reported?

Good luck! I hope you enjoy the task.

RWInc: Mrs Fox has set you a new text this week: The Jar of Oil. Have a read of the story and go through the spellings. Mrs Fox has set your learning task for today which is attached below. Don’t forget to send us pictures of your learning!

TOPIC: We have learnt so many amazing things about the rainforest over the past few weeks. We have thought about the different types of rainforests and where they are in the world, some of the interesting creatures that live in Earth’s rainforests, why the Amazon is so great, how rainforests are important and, indeed, why it is so important to protect them! I hope that, over the past weeks, you have developed your own interests and have been able to take the time to find out more!

For the next two days, I would like you to work on one final beautiful piece of work (complete with pictures, information and cursive handwriting) that captures your understanding or favourite learning from our topic this term. Use your notes in your workbook, the Internet, books, your adults etc. and use one piece of A4 paper or a double spread (as we would in school) to create your final piece.

Today is your PLANNING DAY. Consider what your final piece may be about. Will you cover all of your knowledge briefly or focus in on a favourite aspect like the Amazon? Plants? Deforestation? One specific creature or rainforest?

Tomorrow, you will create your final piece of BEAUTIFUL WORK for Term 5.

Extra activities:

R: Access Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. I have uploaded some more chapters.

Handwriting: Practise cursive formations using the handwriting sheets that can be found in the Home Learning section online.

Martyn Harvey Competition: Work on your entry for the competition. The videos can be found by scrolling down through the previous blogs.

Have a super day! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures of yourself doing learning/upload to Padlet! Missing you as always!
