RAPS Archers On Target

Archery has hit the bullseye with popularity among young archers at Ramsgate Arts Primary.

After performing well in a Thanet-based competition this months, the participants are eager to compete again.

The tournament was run by the Thanet Passport schools sport team and was held at Upton Juniors in Broadstairs.

It saw the RAPS archers from Year 3 to Year 6 facing competitors from St Peter’s Primary and St George’s as well as from its Viking Academy Trust partners Upton and Chilton Primary.

The team performed extremely well even without much archery practice before the event.

The Year 3 and 4 group year won two of their four games, while the Year 5 and 6 archers won three from four matches, meaning there were some tight joint third place finishes.

Sport and PE teacher Lewis Robinson said: “All participants received medals for their super accurate shooting and thoroughly enjoyed themselves so much that they want to do it again next year."

Head of School Nick Budge said: “We embrace a range of sporting opportunities for our children and are always keen to explore activities outside the normal range on offer.

“The archery group performed very well and we will further consider how to develop archery in our sports provision. We have previously hosted a schools archery tournament at our school and it was very popular and thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part.”

Ramsgate Arts Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with its partner schools Chilton Primary in Ramsgate and Upton Juniors in Broadstairs.
