Think outside the box Thursday!
Maths I am learning to double numbers over 5

We are quite good at doubling. We know that it is simply the same number again, we add the two identical values together! It is helpful to know doubles of by heart as well as possible because it helps us with multiplication and other maths problems.
We can use our fingers to help us up until 10 (and beyond, but as of 6 we have to remember to recount the same fingers again, because we don’t normally have 12 fingers!);

Follow the powerpoint Making Doubles and then try the activities! There are lots of reasoning and problem solving questions to do with doubling. There are also extension and discussion activities to stretch your understanding.
English continue.... Can I write a postcard?
Take a look at slides 12 and 13 at the post card Jack sends to the Giant. A post card usually has a picture on one side and the message on the other side along with the address and stamp.
Cast you minds back to term 1, we pretended to visit Scotland and wrote postcards from there. We drew a picture of something we thought was amazing or unique about Scotland on one side and wrote a short message on the other.
You may like to create your own post card (which you have done in English previously as well anyway), or you can use a real one if you have any at home.
I would like you to pick a fairy tale character from the book or another character and pretend to be them as you write your post card about an adventure you have been on.
I might pretend to be the Frog Princess (thinking about the Disney film) and write a post card from the swamps about meeting a talking frog. I would address my post card to my friend at home and tell them about where I am, whether I am having fun, that the frog claims to be a prince and that it’s really wet and warm in the swam... “Yesterday I saw a ferocious crocodile while I was in a boat and used all my power to paddle away! In the evening the swamp was lit up by beautiful fireflies. I wish you were here on this adventure with me”.
How much you can write on the post card depends on how big your post card is and how small you can make your handwriting to fit in everything you want to say. Usually a postcard will be a really short version of a letter and the picture is the main feature. Include an address, made up or real, on the right-hand side underneath the stamp.
Finish your postcard; you should know your character, where you are having your adventure and what you want to say or draw your picture. Don’t forget to create/draw/paint your postcard picture on the flip side.

Topic I know that humans can impact the natural environment in positive and negative ways.
Recap how coastlines and beaches around the world are different for various reasons. There is a beach called glass beach in California, USA. It is called that because 100s of years ago people used to dump rubbish including glass, cars and anything else they didn’t need anymore on to this beach. Unfortunately, most things washed out to sea, but the glass stayed on the beach. Gradually over time it was worn down in to smooth rounded and sparkling gem like pebbles. Have you ever seen pieces of coloured glass on the beach? We sometimes call them ‘Mermaid’s tears’. While this is quite a pretty sight, this is an impact of humans on the environment. Think back to our Materials topic; we looked at the material plastic and how it takes 500 years to deteriorate (which means break down and disappear)! When you have been on the beach recently did you see any rubbish left behind by beach goers or rubbish that has blown out of the bins? Sadly a lot of this rubbish will end up in the sea.

Discuss with your adult how pollution affects our coast lines and beaches. Is there anything you could do to help reduce plastic pollution? Make a list of bullet points of all the things you think of. Tomorrow you'll be adding to your beach safety picture or creating a new poster.
