This week practise spelling your high frequency words. Some of these are tricky and we can’t always Fred them so we practise spelling them with the letter names not the sounds.

Maths
Today we are going to revisit Geometry (shape) topic in maths, but this time with a twist. We are going to learn and describe position, direction and movement. Below are a number of activities, do them all or just do a couple.
Watch and listen to Mrs Fetherston read this story which uses some positional language. Can you list the positional and movement language used in this story?

Here is a list of other positional language;
Behind, under, on, near, in front of, next to, at, between, in... (also called prepositions)
Below I have attached some vocabulary cards for you to print off or you can write your own to use.
Position yourself (or an item such as a toy or a ball) in various positions around your home. Then place the word cards to show you understand which position you (or your toy) are in! For example UNDER a table, BEHIND the sofa, BETWEEN two chairs etc. Feel free to take photos.
Next, talk about and label the picture attached below (insect position picture). You could use a picture that you already have from a book, photograph or poster instead. Describe where each creature is positioned. E.d. The Caterpillar is inside the jar.

Every story has a setting. What is the setting in Bog Baby? Can you think of ways to describe the bluebell wood where Bog Baby lives? Think about your senses!
We know the mud around the pond was “squelchy” and the stems of the bluebells “squeaked” under their boots. These are brilliant descriptions using our senses.
I would like you to spend some time thinking about the setting in this book. Look carefully at the pictures in the powerpoint on slides 4,5 and 6 (or this video is helpful for a close up look at the pictures and better colour! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVuH4BdVQOQ)
Talk about:
What trees and plants can you see?
Are there any other creatures living there?
Look at the colours of the plants and trees.
What do you think it smells like there?
What sounds would you hear?
What would things feel like there?
In your book, can you write down some great words and descriptions you could use to describe the setting or you may prefer to use the story setting diagram attached.
We will start to write our story setting tomorrow!

We have been doing some great learning all about the living things around us. Today we are going to think about plants and ask what does a plant need in order to grow?
Plants grow from a seed or a bulb. We have learnt that plants come in thousands of shapes and sizes and some produce flowers and fruit but some do not. Trees that produce flowers and fruits or seeds are also types of flowering plants they are just very big! Here’s a recap:

Plants are very important – for food and for the survival of many species like bees and animals. But we can also keep plants a bit like pets – at home!
If we want plants to grow we need to know what they need. There are 4 things that plants need to grow - Light, Water, Nutrients (from soil) and Temperature
Let’s visit Mrs Smart’s vegetable patch in her garden and have a closer look:

I know that many of you have enjoyed planting seeds while you have been at home - you could use pictures of you sowing seeds if you like and adding captions!
