21/05/2020: Home Learning
It is so HOT!
I think it is safe to say that the past few days have been HOT! Hopefully, we have all been able to get outdoors for some exercise and enjoyed the sun! I, for one, am out of my favourite ice cream!
Learning for today:
PE: Yoga morning!
M: Start with a speedy recap of your number bonds to 20.
Watch the learning video for Lesson 4: Fractions greater than: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/
This video recaps something that we found quite tricky when we first explored it in school but slowly started to understand. Hopefully, this video will jog your memories. Don’t worry if not! This is something that I find tricky sometimes too.
I am going to attach a worksheet below to have a go at IF YOU WANT TO. It is a bit of a stretch and will be challenging, so if you find it really tricky, DO NOT PANIC. LEAVE it. But if you are feeling brave, have a go - DRAW the fractions out because visually representing is the best (and really the only) way of getting your head around fractions. If you can convince your adults, get out biscuits, cakes, your sandwiches for lunch, whatever helps you to see the parts and wholes you are working with. The answers are attached to help too.
E: Now that we have finished the story, we know the ending! Gretl and little Florian are safe and it seems that Florian is now a human boy! We leave the story with Gretl seemingly falling in love with Florian. But…. what happens next??
Over the next two days, you are going to write the next chapter in their story and today is your planning day. What happen next? Does Dr Kalmenius return? Do Gretl and Florian grow up and return to the mines of Schatzberg? Do they go on an adventure? Do a royal family arrive in Glockenheim looking for Florian? Is Glockenheim attacked by a clockwork space bat angel dragon? Just about anything really could happen!
Planning day: What happens next? Map out your plan (start, middle and end) for a one chapter ‘Part 4: What happened next?’.
Think about interesting sentence openers, new characters you might introduce, setting and character descriptions, how you might include an apostrophe for plural possession or powerful vocabulary (mechanical, cogs, prominent, surreal etc.).
RWInc: Take a look at today’s learning task for Jar of Oil. Spelling and text, as always, attached below. Don’t forget to send pictures of your learning!
Drama challenge: Mr Williams has found some amazing drama challenges that I think might be lots of fun for this afternoon, especially as we approach the end of the term. Take a look at the attached Drama Taskmaster sheet – is there one that takes your fancy? I am setting Task 1 as a definite one to do – I miss seeing you so I hope to see lots of entries! But what about the others? Can you produce something exciting for Mr Williams and I to see? I can’t wait to see what you do!
Extra activities:
R: Access Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice.
Art: Using the pointillism technique (forming images with dots), create a rainbow piece for the NHS for Clap for Carers tonight! You can hold/put it up as you clap at 8pm.
Spelling: T5W5 words can be found online.
Have a fabulous Thursday! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures of yourself doing learning/upload to Padlet! Missing you as always!
