22/05/2020: Home Learning

What an interesting week this has been. Today marks the end of Term 5. I can't believe that the term has passed so quickly and so slowly all at the same time, but I am ever grateful that I am your class teacher and have been able to continue being a part of your learning process in a remote way. To summarise only some of Term 5's achievements: you have recapped area and perimeter, tackled fractions, created stunning pieces of artwork, researched the world's rainforests, produced BEAUTIFUL work in your Topic, are writing stories and, most importantly, have grown as RAPS Year 4 role models. I see some of you in school, I have spoken to the rest of you over constant emails, Padlet and, in some cases, on the phone and have been able to see for myself how far you have come. I miss you all, which I think is a given and could be said for school staff across the country, but I am so proud of each and every one of you Team Amin. Enjoy a well deserved Half Term and, hopefully, the sun and I shall be back again in a week's time. In the meantime, though I won't be checking my emails as frequently, if there is anything you need (parents and children alike), please do not hesitate to contact me! Love, Miss Amin x

Learning for today:

Let’s ditch Rosie Wicks today for our SPELLING TEST (You’re testing yourself on the words from last week!)

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 7x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, Hit the Button, or you could practise chanting like we do in school?

We are going to practise lots of different Maths skills again today with another Maths mystery challenge for you all. If you get stuck, ask your adult (or email me) for help! Email me to let me know if you’ve managed to solve the clues and found the answer!! Don’t be tempted to scroll to find the answers!

E: Writing day: What happens next? Read through your plan (start, middle and end) in preparation to write your ‘Part 4: What happened next?’.

As you write, think about how you can include interesting sentence openers, setting and character descriptions, apostrophe for plural possession and powerful vocabulary (mechanical, cogs, prominent, surreal etc.). Will you arrange your story into indented paragraphs? Will you include and punctuate your dialogue?

I can’t wait to read your next chapters. Remember, you can stop writing with a cliff hanger. I am not asking you to write the next book, just a next chapter!

RWInc: Take a look at today’s learning task for Jar of Oil! Spelling and text, as always, attached below. 

Handwriting: Practise cursive formations using the handwriting sheets that can be found in the Home Learning section online. Then, I want you to write a sentence message just for me or our class in your neatest cursive handwriting and send it to me or post to Padlet! It can be a silly message or a joke if you want it to be!

Art: Today, I would like you to take yourself outside into the sun with some art/drawing materials and a piece of paper and I would like you to draw/paint and create a piece showing yourself doing what you would like to do when this lock down is completely over. This is an activity I have been doing for the past two days and I have personally found it so useful to paint my feelings over seeing my Mum and Dad again when I finally can and having a 'home home' (what I call my parent's home) cooked meal! 

Extra activities:

R: Access Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. You can find the WHOLE AUDIO of The Greek who stole Christmas online now. 

Help out at home: Find your adult and see how you can help make their day a little better? Can you fold some clothes? Unload the dishwasher?
