04/06/2020: Home Learning

Good morning, Team Amin

Learning for today:

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 8x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, bingo, Hit the Button etc.?

We are going revisit rounding to the nearest 1000 this morning! I just need to remember that I need to underline the hundreds, tens and ones and circle the thousands

For rounding to the nearest 1000, remember:      500 or more = UP   499 or less = DOWN

e.g.  2134 =            1) Underline 134   2) Circle 2

                           3) 2 = 2 thousand = 2000 and my next thousand up is 3 thousand = 3000

BUT underlining the 134 tells me I am going down to the nearest thousand so…… 2000!

e.g.  168=            1) Underline 168   2) Circle nothing! I have no thousands!

                           3)  0 thousands = 0 and my next thousand up is 1 thousand = 1000

BUT underlining the 168 tells me I am going down to the nearest thousand so…… 0!

PRACTICE: Round to the nearest 1000:

  1. 1627    b) 6585         c) 3415         d) 112       e) 7686       f) 1549       g) 9729    h) 14, 636

E: We are going to practise punctuating speech/dialogue today! Remember, there are four steps.

  1. Included inverted commas (quotation marks, speech marks) around what is being said (the direct speech).
  2. Start speech with a capital letter.
  3. Include punctuation (? ! ,) before the second set of inverted commas.
  4. New line, new speaker

Take a look at the Be The Teacher worksheet and have a go!

RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and story text attached below for How to make a Peach Treat with today’s learning task.

T: We are going to consider differences between the beliefs of different groups and communities today, and how we can show tolerance and understanding. This is a really important topic that we have visited before when thinking about different religions, but which I am sure you will visit again and again! I reckon this shows just how important the topic is!

Take a look at the slides attached below which are designed to get you thinking. An activity like this should, hopefully, make you think about how we, as individuals, show tolerance and understanding for each other. I have attached statement cards below (along with worksheets that you may choose to do but do not have to) - arrange the statements to show how helpful/unhelpful you feel they are in relation to showing tolerance and understanding of others.

Extra activities:

R: Access one of the class reader Powerpoints if you haven’t already and listen along and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. I have added to the House with the Clock in its Walls.

Help around the house?: Ask your adult if there is anything you can do to make their day better! Could you unload the dishwasher? Could you make a sandwich for your adults? Water the plants? Help with dinner?

Have a FANTASTIC Thursday. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures!
