04/05/2020: Home Learning
Monday funday!
Good morning, Team Amin! I hope we have all had a lovely weekend despite the rain! Apparently (according to my Mum), yesterday was World Laughter Day. I definitely laughed a lot yesterday and I hope your day was filled with lots of laughing too...
Learning for today:
PE: Find a safe space (Garden? Living room?) and do 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats and 10 bunny hops. Alternatively why not try Mrs Horrigan’s latest PE challenge (on blog). Or will you do BOTH?!
M: Start with a speedy recap of your 6x and 12x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, Hit the Button, or you could practise chanting like we do in school?
Today, we are going to practise multiplying by 10 and by 100! Remember it is not just add a 0. If, for example, you were multiplying 2.5 by 10 and just ‘add a 0’, you would be left with 2.50. BUT 2.5 and 2.50 are EXACTLY THE SAME! A useful video to help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbPLPUqwhZ4 The dividing part of the video is useful, but you don’t need to know it just yet! Think of it as pre-learning! Today, we are just going to some basic practice.
Questions:
- 25 x 10 b) 10 x 355 c) 94 x 100 d) 413 x 100 e) 9.4 x 10 f) 10 x 98.4
g) 0.74 x 100 h) 531.53 x 100 i) 10 x 0.06 j) 100 x 0.106 k) 4.146 x 100
E: Start with practising this week’s spelling words (T5W3). Then, go into your Home Learning, Reading section and have a listen (I added more to the Powerpoint on Friday).
TASK: Now, today, you are going to write your own description of Sir Ironsoul, but you are going to try to do it in the form of an advert! Like a toy advert. You’ll need to think about drawing a picture of the knight figure, consider price, where it will be sold, weight, height, age, materials with which the figure is made and include a brief description of the knight itself.
Challenge words to try and use: mechanism, balanced and malleable. I have attached pictures of the specific pages below which your adult could read to you.
RWInc: Please find the relevant spellings and text attached below too for Hole in Hill with today’s learning task. Remember to use your dictionary skills :)
TOPIC: I’m really enjoying hearing about and seeing all of the wonderful Topic work you have been doing! I love rainforests and I hope you are enjoying learning about them too! Today, we are going to think about Life in the Rainforest. Start with a recap of your learning last week (take a look at your notes). Can you remember the layers of the rainforest and what makes them all different to each other? Attached is the Powerpoint and aid (should you want it) for today.
Task: You might choose one of these or do something similar but of your own choice:
- Create an information text with sub-headings about the animals you can find in the different layers of the rainforest.
- Research one layer and create a fact sheet about it and its animals
- Simply soak in the information and the new learning and test yourself of where you’d find the different creatures in the layers. You might even create a quiz for a friend, the class or for me!
I am linking this video which I really enjoyed watching about life in the layers of rainforests in Thailand and under the canopy and attaching some animal fact files examples too to look at, be inspired by and learn from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqvH-BWJKYM
There is also this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InT2qpJRpfs.
Extra activities:
R: Access the GG Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. You might also like to listen to ‘Rainforest Calling’ which I have put in the Home Learning section.
Spelling: Practise this week’s spelling in time to test yourself this Friday!
Help around the house?: Ask your adult if there is anything you can do to make their day better!
Have a wonderful Monday. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures/upload to Padlet! If you didn’t laugh a lot this weekend, make sure you read/watch something funny, tell and joke and laugh today!
