An Arty Start for Creative Little Ones
Creative skills are already being explored by the new intake of four year olds at Ramsgate Arts Primary.
They have begun an Art to Start learning journey and families were invited in to class to join in with children to explore self-portraits and bright and bold picture framing.
The sessions are designed to start topic work in an exciting and creative way and form part of the dedicated arts curriculum that runs every afternoon across all age groups.
Head of School Nick Budge said: “We are very proud of our special curriculum that encourages creative participation all aspects of the arts from the first days our pupils join RAPS.”
Early Years pupils have already begun to have daily phonics lessons, and through the Read, Write Inc programme which the school follows they have learnt individual sounds, how to blend these sounds together and how to form letters correctly.
They also enjoyed their first lessons with RAPS specialist art teacher Kelly Smith in the art studio, music in the dedicated music room and focusing on ball skills and spatial awareness in their PE lessons with coach Lewis Robinson.
Weeks of thoughtful planning and consideration for their transition ensured that the children enjoyed a happy, calm and settled first few weeks of school.
The children are enjoying exploring their new environments and have established strong relationships with their teachers and new classmates. They have been learning classroom routines and staff have been encouraging them to build independence in all aspects of school life including hanging their coats up, putting book bags away in the correct place, going to the toilet, hand washing and eating lunch.
Assistant Head and Early Years Leader Louise Chidwick-Day said “I am extremely proud of how well the children have settled into Ramsgate Arts Primary School and begun their school journey with us.
“Parents and carers have been instrumental in making it such a success. They have been supportive of our transition process and in building the children’s independence.
“It has been delightful to see the children arriving each morning in such a calm and happy way. I’m really looking forward to the year ahead. “
Ramsgate Arts Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School and Chilton Primary School.
