Power of Reading...

Team Piper has been on an exciting learning journey with Astro Girl by Ken Wilson-Max, where we've been discovering how illustrations and personal connections bring stories to life. Through exploring the book's vibrant pictures and the character of Astrid, we've learned to read beyond the text, using visual clues to understand her personality, interests, and emotions.

By observing Astrid’s bedroom, space toys, and space suit, we’ve talked about what makes her unique, like her love for space, and how we can relate to her in our own ways. We've also practised sharing our thoughts and feelings, connecting to the story by thinking about what we love and what makes us similar to Astrid. By examining her actions, appearance, and the evidence around her, we've learnt how to describe and understand characters more deeply, making reading an interactive and personal experience.

Overall, it’s been an amazing opportunity to explore the power of illustrations, character exploration, and personal reflexion, helping us see how stories can connect to our own lives in meaningful ways. We can’t wait to learn more this week! :)
