Light and Power
It was a busy week in topic, with Year 6 looking at building periscopes, learning about the visible spectrum and then planning and conducting an investigation about shadows...
On Monday, we proved that we can use our understanding of light travelling in straight lines to help us 'see round corners'. By positioning a pair of mirrors at exactly 45 degrees, the children made their own periscopes - before testing them out.
We then looked at how Isaac Newton proved that white light is actually made up of a spectrum of colours - and that these colours have different wavelengths and hence refract differently through a prism.
Finally, at the end of the week, we were real scientists: working through a scientific approach to plan and conduct an experiment, to see how shadows are affected by their proximity to a light source.
