Radio Ramsgate!

As part of Oracy Week, we had a visit from the staff of Ramsgate Radio...

To begin with, they shared the technical insights about the equipment used in the production of a radio show - in particular the different types of microphone.

We then discussed the importance of what we say, and how we say it - especially on a radio show where there are no visual cues to support the audience, unlike TV.

With this in mind, the children got into groups and got to interview an adult in the room (the staff from the radio or the teaching staff). On whiteboards, they planned their questions, decided on an order and scripted an introduction to their interview.

Finally, each group got to use the professional equipment to record their interview. It was an amazing experience and really helped the children think about the power of the spoken word. A huge thank you to Filipe and Ryan (the Ramsgate Radio team members) for your insight, time and expertise!
