Division in maths

Within our maths lessons we have been looking at division...

After a re-cap on accurately completing short division (sometimes known as the bus stop method), we looked at using factor pairs, to make dividing by larger numbers easier. For example, when dividing by 32, it is possible to identify a factor pair ( 4 and 8 as 4x8=32) and then complete two short division calculations.

Sometimes however, this is not possible. If dividing by a large prime number (like 29), there are no factors, so the chunking method was demonstrated and rehearsed. Why not see if your child can explain or demonstrate any of these methods to you!
