Number recognition...

Maths...

In Reception, number recognition is a key focus, and one fun activity we're using to support this is rolling dice! Children roll the dice and draw that many dots on a sheet of paper, helping them link numerals to quantities and reinforcing counting skills. This activity aligns with the EYFS framework by supporting children’s development in mathematics (recognizing numbers and counting), shape and space (dot placement), personal and social skills (cooperation and sharing), communication (discussing their counting), and physical development (fine motor skills). Dice games work because they’re hands-on, engaging, and repetitive, making learning feel like play. Parents can support this by playing at home, spotting numbers in everyday life, and celebrating progress to boost confidence and reinforce learning in a fun way.
