Money Money Money

This week the children explored the value of our coins and will soon go on to looking at and identifying the different notes that we use for currency in the UK. If and when possible, it would be beneficial for the children to experience paying for small things  (like sweets) in cash. This will help deepen their understanding of money and teach them its value. They have had a chance to handle real coins so their ability to identify different coins and the value attached is developing. We have also explored comparing their value and discussing how 100 1pence coins are equal to £1 and that 5p is greater than 2p even though it is the smallest coin of all. This draws on their previous learning about equality and inequality (= > <)
