Welcome to Tuesdays challenges!
Maths:
Brain workout – count in 2's, 5's and 10's (forwards and backwards), use a ruler or broom stick and put post-it notes with the numbers on them to help.
Maybe remove a post it note, here and there, to challenge their knowledge.
Money: Order coins and notes and label them (don’t forget the ‘p’ for pence and the £ for pounds, the children often confuse pence and pounds).
You could do rubbings of coins with crayons and paper, use real money and take a photo or cut out and stick money. I have attached pictures of real money below.
Challenge: Pay for items with correct money then find the change
Use your toys, ask an adult to price them up.
If you pay for an item with a note or a coin that has more value than the item, what is the difference? How much money would you receive in return? E.g. the teddy costs £7 you use a £10, your change would be £3. Top tip: Your number bonds to 10 and 20 might come in handy here! Your counting back and subtraction skills too!

I'm sure you have read lots of books while you have been home schooling! Today can you create a book review. Please include a summary of the book, what you enjoyed, what you didn't enjoy so much and give it a star rating (5 stars being the most)
I will try and share some on the blog tomorrow!
Miss Aitken’s group
Today’s sounds are “a-e" (make a cake) and "i-e” (nice smile).
Remember these are 'chatty friends' sounds, so they can't sit next to each other in words, another sound sits in between them.
Say the sound and the phrase and listen for the sound in the words.
Now practise these spellings with today’s focus sounds, don't forget your dots and dashes!
1) make 2) cake 3) nice 4) smile
Write these two sentences using words with the focus sounds for today:
(watch out for those other letters that make the "eye" sound!)
1) My dad bakes the best vanilla and berry cupcakes.
2) I won a prize for flying my kite really high!
Mrs Fetherston’s group
Today’s focus sound is “oa” as in “goat in a boat”. Be careful – this sound sounds like ‘ow’ "blow the snow” but it is usually used in the middle of words rather than at the end like ‘ow’. E.g. Goat, not gowt! Folloa me! X Follow me! >
Say the sound and the phrase and listen for the sound in the words. Now practise these spellings with today’s focus sound “oa” - don't forget your dots and dashes!
1) goat 2) float 3) raincoat
Then write these sentences:
1) Can that goat really float in that boat?
2) A raincoat must be water proof.
Mrs Smith’s group
Today’s focus sound is “ire” as in “fire, fire!” You might like to sing the nursery rhyme ‘London’s Burning’ to help you remember!
Say the sound and the phrase and listen for the sound in the words. Now practise these spellings with today’s focus sound “ire” - don't forget your dots and dashes!
1) fire 2) wire 3) vampire
Then write these sentences
1) Fetch the engines, there is a fire!
2) Don’t let a vampire suck your blood!
Miss Tranham’s group
Today’s focus sound is ‘oo’ “look at a book”. Look out!!! It looks just like ‘oo’ “poo at the zoo” and is used in most words the same way but makes a slightly different sound.
Say the sound and the phrase and listen for the sound in the words. Now practise these spellings with today’s focus sound “oo” - don't forget your dots and dashes!
- Foot 2) hook 3) wood
Write these sentences:
- In to the wood I go.
- My foot got stuck on a hook!
Topic
Create an information sheet or poster about your favourite game (e.g. video game, board game, card game). List the features, how to play, how many players etc then give it a rating (stars out of 5). Somebody might be inspired to buy it and play it after reading your poster or information sheet.
