Local history explored

As part of our topic, 'World at War' - where we focus on WWII - the year group visited the Ramsgate Wartime Tunnels to see where local residents would have sought shelter from bombing raids...
After watching a short video clip of footage from the local area at the time, the children walked through the tunnels with a guide (who was incredibly informative). During this walk, the children experienced the cramped conditions local residents would have been exposed to and experienced first-hand the damp and condensation that was rife. Seeing the graffiti from the people at the time, as well as learning the rather unpleasant situation with toilets really brought home what life was like when sheltering from the Blitz.
