RAPS’ Inspiring Young Inventors
Young inventors at Ramsgate Arts Primary have been creating innovative ideas to change the world for the better.
The Year 5 children showcased their creativity and teamwork in an exciting enterprise initiative called The Roar Project, a nationwide competition run by The Lions Club.
It challenged them to think like inventors, coming up with original concepts and building prototypes. The young teams also crafted engaging presentations, complete with jingles, posters, and marketing materials to communicate their ideas effectively.
The culmination was a vibrant fair held in the school hall, attended by proud parents and fellow pupils from Year 4 who will participate in the project next year.
Thanet Lions Club – the charity that raises funds to support local communities and much-needed services like the air ambulance – provided a panel of judges.
The budding inventors performed their presentations in front of the judges and winners were selected in various categories including best prototype, poster, concept and jingle.
The overall winning team - Maisie, Olive, Gracie-Mae, and Emily - impressed everyone with their invention called Books For the Blind.
Their product idea, a wristband that scans the barcodes of books and reads them aloud as audiobooks, stood out for its innovative and impactful design. The wristband includes features for adjusting volume, pausing playback, and reading titles aloud, making literature more accessible to visually impaired people.
The team’s winning presentation has been recorded and will be sent to a regional final, and the Ramsgate Arts Primary team will await the results during an online ceremony later in the school year.
Assistant Head of School Hannah Dannell praised all the children who took part. She said: “It was a comprehensive experience that combined critical thinking, marketing, and public speaking skills
“Ramsgate Arts Primary School extends its heartfelt thanks to the Thanet Lions Club for their generosity and support, as well as the judges for taking the time to evaluate the incredible work of the pupils, graciously funding the school’s entry fees and providing prizes for all participants.
“The event was a wonderful celebration of creativity, teamwork, and a shared commitment to making the world a better place.”
Head of School Nick Budge added: “This was an excellent event that highlighted the creativity and inventiveness of our children. We encourage them to ‘think big, dream
