Young Gardeners Blossoming At RAPS

Everything in the garden will be lovely this spring at Ramsgate Arts Primary – thanks to a planting session by young children.

The Year 2 group was gifted a selection of bulbs by a grandparent and the pupils wasted no time in getting the daffodils into the soil in the school grounds.

Parents and carers joined in to help with digging holes and supporting children with using gardening tools as they placed the bulbs and other plants in the beds and planters.

Assistant Head of School Kiki Amin said: “This was such a great moment for community involvement, especially for the future.

“The children are extremely excited to see the plants grow over the coming months and years, knowing that they planted them.”

Open spaces at RAPS are developing into a little haven for nature.

Last year the Royal Horticultural Society provided a £10,000 grant that enabled RAPS to further its ‘go green’ sustainability ethos with the creation of a planted outdoor area.

Head of School Nick Budge said: “Our aim is to continue developing our grounds to help re-establish and encourage wildlife such as bees as well as enhancing open spaces for children, staff and visitors.

“As well as the garden, we have planted a range of trees including eight willows on the grassy bank between the hard play area and the school fields.

“Our children are keen to watch how our nature centre develops, with our pupil-led Eco Team helping oversee the care and maintenance of the plants.”

Ramsgate Arts Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with its partner schools Chilton Primary in Ramsgate and Upton Juniors in Broadstairs.
