Crime and Punishment

Covering the Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Tudor and Victorian eras, we have looked at some of the crimes and their associated punishments in British history. Many of the crimes are actually similar to those we have today, however the punishments have become far more humane!

The children particularly seemed to enjoy learning about the Anglo-Saxon 'ordeals', the strange laws in Tudor times and the introduction of prisons during Victoria's reign - and the pointless tasks set for the prisoners, such as the crank or pickin' oakum.
