Evacuee stories

With our new topic 'World At War', we have looked at the Blitz and the need to evacuate the children and the vulnerable. Using this as inspiration, we have been writing our own stories...

Initially, we watched the beginning of the film, 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' to give us some inspiration for the settings. We then thought about the three initial locations of the train station, the train and arriving at a village hall. At each stage, we challenged the children to bring the settings to life, thinking about the senses and how the character would be feeling.

Children were encouraged to weave in some dialogue to help drive the story on and avoid dull, simple speech that serves no real purpose.
