Mummifying tomatoes!

Team Amin have been trying to become Ancient Egyptian mummifiers!

To help Team Amin really get to grips with the process of mummification and its impact over time, we spent our afternoon trying to preserve a tomato in order to see if we can mummify it. First, we scooped out all of the insides to symbolise the removal of internal organs in the mummification process. Then, we used kitchen roll and anti-bacterial wash to remove all excess liquid and to get rid of any germs. After that, we stuffed the tomato with table salt and bicarbonate of soda (to symbolise the natron using by Ancient Egyptians) and then sealed up our tomato in an airtight container. We are going to do an observation over time, like the best of scientists, to see what happens!
