  • Organising Your Day

    Published 22/03/20, by Admin

Hey everyone, I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend. Before we set off on our home learning journeys I thought I would share an example timetable for you (see attachments). Now, this is there just to help give a bit of structure to your days. Parents and carers can choose to use it or not, it's just there as a resource if you feel it would help. I have also made it available in our Year 5 learning folder for when this blog post drops off the bottom of the page.

  • Home Learning

    Published 20/03/20, by Admin

As you have hopefully heard in the news, we will be closing on Friday to the vast majority of pupils. If your child was at school today they will have brought home a book, pencils and a letter. In case your child was not in, a copy of the letter is attached at the bottom of this blog post...

Just underneath the curriculum map at the top of the Year 5 class blog page there is a link to a series of online resources. There will also be daily blogs starting next Monday with tasks to be completed in maths, English and Topic. If your child was not in today and so did not get a pack, they will be left at the main office where an adult may come to collect them. We do not know how long the current situation will last, but it is so important that your children continues with their learning, or they will fall behind their peers when we do restart regular lessons. Please get in contact if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support during these tricky times.

Our learning about William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was enhanced by the wonderful Wizard Stories. After lots of games we put together a series of freeze frames from the story and acted them out. Tomorrow we will take this a step further and learn the skills of stage fighting!

As part of Shakespeare week we have been looking at the part in the play where Romeo and Juliet first meet at a masked ball. Wow! What an exciting day here in Year 5. We had the fabulous Time Capsule Education come to visit to teach us all about the Anglo-Saxons. We were told the story of Beowulf and his battle with the monster Grendel and then learned all about Saxon weapons and armour. See below for a few more photos of the day.

This term we are learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We started our topic by researching and creating our own Saxon shieldwall. (Perhaps it will protect us from our Reception buddies when we read with them on Fridays!)

Wow! I'm sure you will agree that the children looked fantastic yesterday for World Book Day. WE designed a cover for our favourite books and had a lovely session reading to our partner classes in Reception. Thank you to all of our parents for your support in making those book characters come alive.
