Thursday 30th May 2020

Hi Team R-B!

It's Thursday! It's been quite a miserable couple of days with the weather recently. Can you write your favourite joke on Padlet to cheer everyone up? Here's one of my favourite jokes ...

Why did the teddy bear say no to dessert?

Because he was stuffed!

PE: It's another Go Noodle day, maybe try one of their mindful workouts ...

English:
Today and tomorrow you are going to be writing a story inspired by Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book. It's going to be about a character who falls into a book. Your story could begin like Lauren Child's where Herb falls into the book or it could be another way? Think about the characters they meet in the story. Your story is then going to end by meeting a witch/wizard/fairy godmother who is going to use the spell you wrote on Tuesday to help your character get out of the book. Remember I want you to include lots of detail, describing the character, the setting, conversations they have etc. It doesn't have to be finished today so don't rush it!

Don't forget to include:
- commas for lists
- questions
- apostrophes for omission
- apostrophes for possession
- speech (if you can)

Spelling
Can you think of some mnemonics to help you spelling these words?
- sugar
- many
- father
- everybody
- should

Maths:
Have a go at the fractions questions below. The questions are all based on things we have covered this week and what we covered back in school. Good luck!

Topic:
The artists we have explored, there are many other significant people who’ve contributed to life in the past and these contributions continue to impact us today. This week, we will explore ‘activists’. These are people who campaign for change in society. Society refers to the groups we live in. Why might someone want to campaign for change? Sometimes, the ways things are done might not be done so in the best way and it takes someone to stand up and talk to make things improve. One such person was Florence Nightingale. Florence Nightingale was born on 12th May 1820 in Italy, can you place her birth on your timeline and find Italy on a map? Read the information about Florence Nightingale on the fact sheet below. Florence was a determined young girl who loved to learn and read. She wanted to be  different tot the other girls of her time period– a long time ago, girls were not encouraged to work and be educated like they are today.
Take a look as these video clips:

Think about how Florence might have felt when she saw the bad conditions of the hospital and how she cleaned and changed the environment to help those who were sick.

Today you are going to write a diary entry from the perspective of Florence in the hospitals.

Helping at home:

Ask an adult what you can do to be helpful today.

Happy Thursday!

Love Miss R-B, Mrs Fetherston, Mr Brown and Charlie Fudge x
