Floodland-inspired poetry

This week, in our English lessons, Year 6 have again drawn on the themes of our text 'Floodland' to create a piece of narrative poetry...

We began the week by looking at examples of poetry and drawing out poetic devices including personification, metaphorical language, alliteration and onomatopoeia.

Using these skills, the children wrote three stanzas telling the story of a calm and happy sea in the first verse; a sea becoming damaged and ruined by human actions; a final verse of the sea becoming enraged and taking revenge.

On Friday, after the writing and editing process, the children typed up their poems and selected suitable backdrops. Attached below are the completed ones thus far. The rest will be completed at the beginning of next week!
