Maths, maths, maths!
The children are impressing me with their maths skills!
This week we have been focussing on addition. We've been writing number sentences and using the language 'plus, add, equals'. The children have been using a range of manipulatives (actual things) to support with working out.
We build the skill as we work through, we start with a part-part-whole model, then we build up to using tens frames and then today we concluded with some word problems. An example of a question might be 'First Mrs W has 3 chocolate bars, then Miss Perry gave her 2 more, now how many are there?' The children are used to the 'first, then, now' language and use this well.
Number formation has been an obvious area to work on so we are now adding that into our handwriting sessions. Any extra practice of number formation at home would be greatly appreciated. Any questions about our maths learning, do ask. You'll be able to see your child's books at parent's evening.
