English, literacy festival and world book day...

Information about next week and a peek at our English lessons !

This week in English we have been looking closer at our protagonist Varjak Paw and his family dynamic. Acting as if in silent movies, we portrayed how the power was taken from Elder Paw by Father Paw leaving Varjak confused and worried about the future.

We have also written diary entries as if we are Varjak watching the ominous figure of 'the Gentleman' come into Contessa's house. We carefully chose our vocabulary to build up a sense of suspense in our work, just like SF Said.

Take a look at our acting !

Literacy Festival and World Book Day

The RAPS Literacy Festival will be running from Monday 3rd March to Friday 7th March!

This will be a week long festival where we celebrate reading and writing in all its different forms.

Throughout the week, the children will be taking part in lots of exciting literacy based activities, as well as workshops with a variety of different authors, poets and facilitators including Harry Baker, Em Cosh, Dame The Story Kween, Half Moon Theatre, Sarah Tomczak, David Whitehouse, Setareh Ebrahimi and Naomi Hammerton!

World Book Day is on Thursday 6th March and the children will be asked to bring in their favourite book. They are also encouraged to dress up as a character from the book, however, the emphasis is on them sharing their favourite book with peers.

On Thursday 6th March at 4.15pm, parents of year 5 and 6 are invited to hear some poetry that will be written during their workshops with Harry Baker.

Throughout the week there will be reading based competitions that the children will be encouraged to enter, such as sending in photos of their favourite place to read!

We would love to invite parents in for a special come read with me session. Year R, Year 1 and Year 2 are welcome to join us on Wednesday 5th March at 2.40pm. Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, please join us on Friday 7th March at 2.40pm.

We look forward to celebrating all things Literacy with you
