Learning About Shapes in the Environment...

2D Shapes...

In Reception, we’ve been exploring 2D shapes and how they appear in the world around us. The children learned that 2D shapes are flat and practised identifying them in real-life scenes from our school. They looked at pictures and circled the 2D shapes they could see, helping them understand how shapes come in different sizes and contexts. We also discussed 'almost' shapes to encourage them to think carefully about what makes a shape fit its category.

This hands-on activity allowed the children to connect their shape knowledge with the environment, making learning both fun and practical. Why not try a shape hunt at home?
