Archery Challenge Hits The Bullseye at RAPS

The aim of the event - that was run in conjunction with TeamTheme Kent - is to expand and diversify sports provision at the arts specialist centre as part of an ongoing project.

The would-be archers took part in a range of challenges that included the longest shot, accuracy, agility slalom and agility transfers, a coconut shy, foot golf and a speed bounce – all with an archery theme.

RAPS PE lead Alice Piper and sports coach Lewis Robinson worked with TeamTheme assistant director Andy Johnston to ensure that children of all ages and abilities enjoyed the experience and tried their hand at the different skills tests.

Mr Johnston said: “The various activities helped develop hand-to-eye co-ordination skills, agility, teamwork, communication and co-ordination, with fair play and sporting behaviour also a key part.

“The children were enthusiastic and really embraced the various challenges of the mini-tournament.”

Head of School Nick Budge added: “We are working with TeamTheme Kent as part of our broadening of the sports curriculum so we can offer a wider range of activities that are inclusive and fun for all.

“The archery content was thoroughly enjoyed by all our young participants who all received medals at the end.”

Children from Dame Janet Primary Academy in Ramsgate were invited to join in the competition as part of RAPS ongoing outreach educational remit.

Ramsgate Arts Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust together with Upton Junior School, Broadstairs, and Chilton Primary, Ramsgate.
