RAPS Trophy Winners Celebrate Football Success

Sporting success is progressing in style as Ramsgate Arts Primary is celebrating its first major footballing triumph.

A team of Year 5 and Year 6 children battled their way through the Football Super Saturday Tournament at Baypoint Leisure Centre, organised by Thanet Primary Association for School Sport.

The competition was split into two stages, the first stage being a "tester" group where RAPS only lost one game enabling them to move forward to a group of similar ability levels.

The second stage involved Team RAPS playing against Garlinge 1, Garlinge 2, Monkton and St Ethelbert’s where its players showed excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and impressive football skills.

They beat every school they faced scoring at least two goals in all of those games with victories of 2-0, 3-0, 2-0 and 4-1 to clinch a group trophy.

Sports coach Lewis Robinson said: “Our children were extremely proud of this achievement and they also collected a medal each for taking part.”

PE Lead Alice Piper added: “The team showcased their skills and determination, overcoming tough competition to secure a well-deserved victory. I am so proud of the team's effort and all their hard work- all the training with Mr Robinson clearly paid off.”

The school, which has only been open for seven years, enjoys a wide range of sports as part of its PE curriculum. This includes rugby, football, hockey, tennis, athletics, gymnastics and handball.

Head of School Nick Budge is pleased with the progression of sports at RAPS. He said: “We have a fantastic academic and Arts curriculum with so many success – now we are happy to be able to celebrate a real sporting triumph in a district football competition that pitched RAPS against some of the best local school sides.

“Sport is popular at our school and is tailored to ensure involvement of pupils of all ages and abilities – this victory is another achievement as we continue to build our sporting profile.”

Ramsgate Arts Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School and Chilton Primary School.
