Bold and Creative Original Art at RAPS
Children and parents at Ramsgate Arts Primary have worked together to create colourful and inspired original artwork.
They took part in the Big Draw, an initiative by a pioneering visual literacy charity dedicated to raising the profile of drawing as a tool for wellbeing, thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement.
It leads a diverse programme of advocacy, empowerment and engagement, and is the founder and driving force behind The Big Draw Festival – the world’s biggest celebration of drawing.
The RAPS event saw the main hall transferred into a wonderfully messy and fun hub with creative of all ages embracing this year’s theme ‘Drawing in Motion’.
RAPS Art Lead Kelly-Anne Smith said: “I decided to use the artist Jackson Pollock as our inspiration. He is best known for his action paintings and abstract expressionist works.
“During his ‘poured period’, Pollock dripped paint onto canvas to convey the emotion of movement. Children and parents worked together to create a variety of paintings using a similar method.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to explore and create artworks in a controlled, messy environment using playful and fun methods. The event generated some spectacular art pieces that are entertaining and memorable for all.”
Head of School Nick Budge said: “This was a wonderful expressive opportunity for children to create truly collaborative art pieces, with a lot of support from our families.
“A number of bright and bold artworks now have pride of place on walls in and around our school to celebrate the success of the RAPS Big Draw initiative.”
Ramsgate Arts Primary is part of the Viking Academy Trust with its partner schools Chilton Primary in Ramsgate and Upton Juniors in Broadstairs.
