Shopping in Team Amin-Barnes

Money in Year 2!

On Friday, Year 2 started our money unit and we had a whirlwind of fun with our learning! We jumped right in, testing ourselves with coin recognition activities and learning about why money is so important in real life and how it is used. We were even introduced to the word currency.

Year 2 loved identifying different coins and their values, and spotting ways to recognise ‘pence’ coins by colour and size too. Then, we went ‘shopping’ in our class shop! The children took turns to pick and buy items such as fruit, books, pens and sand timers, and to pay their shopkeepers by counting up different values of coins. The shopkeepers then had to check if they agreed they had been given the exact amount!

It was so much fun… why not ask us all about it!
