This week we have been practising the poem Walking with my Iguana by Brian Moses. The children loved the rhythm of the poem and even incorporated their own body percussion when practising. We will be performing them as a class later this week!
Year 2 have been having a wonderful time exploring oracy this week through show and tell speech writing, a role play and improvisation workshop and oral storytelling sessions.
We have been learning that oracy includes taking time to think about what you want to say, listening to others and how you use your body language to help express your views.
Questions to ask:
What does oracy mean to you?
What makes a good speaker?
What makes a good listener?
During week commencing 27th February we are running a special oracy week across the school.
All classes will be exploring the joys of speaking and listening and children will have the chance to take part in special workshops and events. Keep an eye on our blogs to see what we get up to!
On Tuesday 28th, we are inviting parents along for a workshop all about oracy. This will be a great chance to hear about all we do to promote excellent talk at RAPS and to get some ideas to promote talk at home with your child. See the poster for more information about the event. The workshop is first come first served so contact the office ASAP to book your place.

Well, we are halfway through Year 2. How time has flown! See below for some key information for this term:
What an incredible day we had to finish our topic this term! We dressed up in our favourite sports outfit and took part in a variety of activities throughout the day. These included mindfulness workshops, PE circuits and a visit from a fitness coach to talk to us about the benefits of staying healthy.
We also made healthy wraps to end the day!
A special thank you to all the adults who came to take part in our topic day!
For two weeks, from 11th to 24th February, all those who take part in the Sleep Challenge can complete a sleep diary; they will agree a bedtime with their parents and try to stick to it, their completed diary needs to be returned to school by 1st March to be entered into a draw. There will be one winner for year 1 and 2, 1 for years 3 and 4, one for years 5 and 6.
Our current book is the wonderful 'Burger Boy'. We have been reading the story and comparing it to the traditional tale of the 'Gingerbread Man'. We also created a puppet show to help sequence the story, lots of fun was had by all!
On Tuesday we celebrated Safer Internet Day at RAPS. Safer Internet Day is a global campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of technology to help to create a better Internet for everyone.
We would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating the day by continuing the conversation at home! To help you with this, there are some free activities and information for parents and carers which are available at: saferinternet.org.uk/SID-parents. there are top tips, quizzes and films which you can use at home with your child.
Cross-Country event at Quex Park is on Saturday 4th Match for KS2. If you would like to come and cheer on your school, you are more than welcome .
