During this week's Topic lessons, the children have been researching electrical inventors. One of the inventors we looked at was Florence Parpart, who invented the electric refrigerator in 1913 (patent granted in 1914). 

But why wasn't Florence Parpart originally credited with the invention?

When Florence Parpart first invented the electric refrigerator, it was common for women inventors "to add a man as co-inventor" they did this to boost interest and commercialisation. Some people also argue that this was done because female inventors, in the 19th and 20th century were seen as less intelligent than men. Luckily this is not something that people believe now.
