Mexican Feast
I hope you will all agree that Friday's Mexican Feast was a success, capping off a wonderful week with so many benefits for the children...
After four days where the pupils got to learn core culinary skills, tried new foods and recipes and developed their familiarity in the kitchen, all of our pupils seemed far more confident in this setting.
This experience has helped enable the children to be more comfortable in a secondary school setting, which can only help when the next step happens for them in September. In addition, they have a greater understanding of food hygiene and even the need of ensuring all the prep is done before beginning to cook.
In terms of skills, as well as the cooking, the children were working in groups, which meant that they had to collaborate and communicate, and, ultimately, it led to both parents and children having a lovely meal!
Obviously, it would not have been possible without the unbelievable work of Mike Spackman - who organises the recipes, orders and shops for all food and supplies and provides the know-how. Also, thanks must go to Royal Harbour for allowing us to use their kitchens and resources. Finally, thank you to you, the parents, for giving up time on a Friday to support the children and be there to share the experience with them. I know these are some of the best memories that past year 6 pupils have left with.
