New spellings

Spelling unit 3 is again about suffixes, this time beginning with a consonant...

The rule is that we do not need to change the root word (not even to drop an e at the end), before adding a suffix that begins with a consonant (such as -ly, -ness, -less or -ment). The only exception is when the root word ends with a 'y'. In these cases, we change the 'y' to an 'i' before we add the suffix.

Please find attached an electronic copy of the words in case your child wishes to practise further. These words will be tested on Friday 18th October.

A short reading task was also sent home, which is also due in next Friday.
