Daily challenges: Thursday 26th March

Good morning Team Spurrier, 

Thank you all so much for the emails of all your home learning over the last few days! It has been lovely to see what you are all up to :) Please remember a HUGE part of our curriculum in reception is learning through play. Don't put too much pressure on yourselves or the children during this difficult time. We love to hear from you no matter how much or how little you can do at home. Well done to all the grown ups out there who are doing a brilliant job with the home learning this week :) 

Here are your challenges for home learning today: 

Maths: Can you find any numbers around your house/garden.  

Challenge: Order numbers to 10 or 20.  Feel free to be as creative as you like with this challenge. There are a couple of attachments to the blog of activities you could do or a link to a game below.

RWI : Here is today's sound for each group. 

Miss Spurrier’s group-th- thank you. (the princess is thanking the horse for saving her from the tower).  

Words for spelling: think, that, this 

Sentence: This is the best.  

Miss Taft’s group- d – dinosaur 

Words for blending: dog, dig, dad 

Spelling: dog 

Mrs Barnes’ group- 0w- blow the snow 

Words for spelling: snow, blow, slow.  

Sentence: The snow is blowing.  

Miss Merry’s group- ow- blow the snow. 

Words for spelling: snow, blow, slow. 

Sentence: Blow the snow. 

Please record in yellow book. -Two lines of handwriting of the sound with finger spaces, three spellings with the sound in and record the sentence with a capital letter and full stop.  I have attached a photo of how you may want to lay the home learning out in your yellow book.

Topic: Fairytales: Today's story is Jack and the Beanstalk. Before watching the video or reading the story (if you have access to a book) can you talk about what might happen in this story? Have you heard of it before? If not have a guess, what might the story be about?

After watching/reading the story, can you name the characters in the story? Where was the setting of the story? What was the problem in the story? How did the problem get solved? 

Challenge: Can you make your own beanstalk? What materials could you use? It could be a beanstalk using art materials, natural materials or even construction materials (lego, building blocks etc.) 

For a bit of fun: Play the movement game based on different types of beans! Children can perform different actions based on the type of bean called out by an adult. For example, if the adult says ‘runner bean’, the children should run around, ‘frozen beans’ means that the children stand still, ‘magic beans’ means the children can pretend to climb a giant beanstalk, ‘jelly beans’ means you wobble like jelly etc. (ask the children if they know anymore, we play this game lots in school)

Extension: Find Jack and the Beanstalk home learning in the home learning folder. You can choose an activity to complete.
