Still looking at measures today, but moving on to length rather than capacity...
As a starting point, remember that 10mm (millimetres) = 1cm (centimetre), and that 100cm = 1m (metre). Therefore 4 cm and 6 mm = 46mm altogether. Likewise, 342 cm is the same as 3m 42cm. When measuring really small objects it makes sense to use a smaller unit, such as mm so that you are dealing with reasoning numbers. Similarly, when measuring larger objects, you would use larger units such as metres. If you measured the length of the playground in mm, the number would be so big it would lose meaning and be impossible to visualise.
With this in mind, have a try of these sheets...
Afterwards, why not ask someone to draw some lines and try and measure them in mm or cm. Then you could ask them for a length and try to accurately draw a line to match.
