16/04: Home Learning

Welcome back to learning! It's Term 5!

GOOD MORNING! It is the first day of Term 5. I hope that we have all had a lovely Easter break and that we are all safe and well. It is still very odd not seeing you all and I miss you all a lot, but remember, we are doing this to keep each other safe! So! What will you do today?

Tasks:

PE: Do Joe Wicks’ workout this morning, get an adult to take a picture and send to Miss Amin/post to Padlet! Remember to find a safe space to do this and to have a water bottle ready!

Maths: Start with a speedy recap of your 3x and 4x. You can do this with a dice game, on TTRS or on Hit the Button. Maybe you could practise chanting like we do in school?

Fractions: Today, I want you to practise your fractions! We will keep it nice and easy!

Recap:

  1. A fraction is a part of a ____________.
  2. Draw 4 circles. For each, show one half, one third, one quarter and one eighth. Remember, you denominator TELLS you how many equal pieces your whole is divided into.
  3. Grab 12 items (12 pencils, 12 grapes, 12 socks – the items should be the same/similar)
  1. Find ½ of these items
  2. Find 1/6 of these items
  3. Find 2/6 of these items

Extension:

  1. What is ¾ of 20?  (Hint: DD , TT)   ( e.g. 2/5 of 15 = 15 divided by 5 = 3 (DD) ; 3 x 2 = 6 (TT) )
  2. True or false?   one half > two quarters (HINT: Draw it out)
  3.  ¾ of 20 = 3/5 of 25 Agree or disagree?
  4. Find three equivalent fractions to 1/2.
  5. 1/3 = 4/12 Agree or disagree?

Want some extra practise: Try the tenths and hundredths activity sheets on our Home learning site in Maths – Fractions.

English: Add another entry to your journal. What did you do over Easter? How are you feeling at the moment? How are you feeling about getting back into Home Learning? What is the first thing you want to do when you get back to school? From next week, we are going to be starting our NEW CORE TEXT! I won't tell you what it is just yet!

RE: Over the next few days, we are going to learn about BUDDHISM. For many of us, this is the first time we are coming across the religion so read and research carefully and make as many (or as little) notes as you want! It is OK if you do not know anything at the start!

Take a look at the PDF attached which has lots of information about Buddhism (Buddhist festivals Slide 1). For more facts, try these useful sites:

https://www.theschoolrun.com/homework-help/buddhism

http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/religion/buddhism.htm

BBC Bitesize has a video and learner guide with some information: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh4mrj6/articles/zdbvjhv

TASK: Find out as many interesting facts as you can about the religion and create one BIG mind map.

Today, Miss Amin is also uploading some pictures below for you to have a look at. These are from a trip two years ago to Nepal, which is right next to India. Though Buddhism is thought to have originated in ancient India, it is believed that Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) was actually born in Nepal at a place called Lumbini.

Over the next few days, I will also share pictures from a country that has an incredible temple with Buddha carvings all over it and some from both Mrs Fox and I, from a country whose population is 95% Buddhist! You may be able to spot lots of interesting things once you know more about the religion!

Quick question: I wonder if anyone could tell me what a ‘Wat’ is?

If you find out any FUN facts about Buddhism, post to Padlet and share them with friends! You might like to find out about some of the places that are very important religious sites for Buddhists.

Extra activities:

Art: Complete you entry for the Easter competitions! I need to have your pictures by the end of the day!

R: Access the GG Powerpoint and listen along to Groosham Grange and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. I have added ANOTHER chapter!

Gardening: Go into your garden and water any plants you have been growing.

TT: Practise your 7 times tables. (Use Hit the button, chanting, TTRS etc., whiteboard)

PE: Have a crack at the PE task Mrs Horrigan has set.

Have a wonderful day. Happy learning! Don’t forget to send me emails/pictures/upload to Padlet. My email address is kiki.amin@ramsgateartsprimaryschool.co.uk
