< We had a few issues with downloading Clockwork yesterday! Hopefully, you will be able to download today as it did seem to sort itself out late in the day, but I have nevertheless uploaded Part 1 and 2 as picture books now online as well. >

Learning for today

PE: It’s another Rosie Wicks’ morning. Don’t forget your water bottle and safe space!

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 5x and 10x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, Hit the Button, or you could practise chanting like we do in school?

For the next two days, we are going to explore something new. I think it’s time we mixed it up, don’t you think? So, we’re going to visit Distributive Law for multiplication. DON’T PANIC! I have set you questions like this before, we just haven’t known it as distributive law and to be honest, it really is just another way to approach short multiplication!

Take a look at the Powerpoint I have attached with audio! Hopefully it is useful! It is perfectly fine if you’re not sure of this method today, we’ll practise again tomorrow! Done? Use the distributive law to solve:

1. 15 x 4
2. 32 x 5
3. 86 x 2
4. 74 x 3
5. 43 x 6

 

E: Go into your Home Learning, Reading section and have a listen again to the story so far.

TASK: Today, I want you to reimagine the conversation between Dr K and Prince Otto in the workshop. Your conversation might reimagine Otto’s demands for Dr K to make a clockwork baby or even his reaction when Dr K presents the baby to him. Is he shocked, surprised, grateful? Is he scared? Does Dr K warn him of something terrible to come? You might like to even describe the workshop itself and what Otto sees as he starts to speak to Dr K. Don’t forget your speech punctuation:

Step 1: Place inverted commas around what is being spoken.

Step 2: Begin speech with a capital letter.

Step 3: Punctuation (! ? , ) before the second set of inverted commas.

Step 4: New line for a new speaker.

And a special Step 5 for my usual suspects who forget: Step 5: identify who is speaking (cried Miss Amin; whispered Mrs Ivan; sang Mrs Fox). Remember, ‘said’ is BORING!

TOPIC: Today, I would like us to stretch the boat a little and have a little bit of mad fun! So the task: create some music inspired by the sounds you would expect to hear in the rainforest! This could be the birds’ squawking, growling, monkeys, swaying leaving, crunching leaves beneath paws, the rain and so much more! SURPRISE ME! You could use objects around the house, your own voice, collaborate with friends, music online! If this isn’t for you, can you create a poem about the rainforest sounds instead? Think, alliteration and lots of onomatopoeia! I can’t wait to see or hear what we get up to!

R: Access the Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice.

Spelling: Practise this week’s spelling in time to test yourself this Friday!

Help around the house?: Ask your adult if there is anything you can do to make their day better!
