Maths:   

Counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10 is helpful when using coins and notes. 

Count forward and backwards in steps of 2, 5 and 10 as quickly as you can. 

Key facts: p = Pence, £ = Pound, there are 100 pence in £1. 

Although now we are not using as much cash (coins and notes), it is still important to build financial literacy by understanding the value of pounds and pence. 

Use the Money sheet attached below to practice identifying each coin and note. If you have coins and notes at home and are happy that they are hygienic enough to use please do so. Otherwise, you can print off the sheet as many times as you need (draw your own or make rubbings by placing paper over coins and running crayons to reveal the image of the coin). I have also saved the word document which is editable if you would like more of specific coins or notes.  

Your task today is to add money together. Begin with same coins e.g. a number or 1p coins and counting in 1’s to find the total (1p + 1p + 1p + 1p =…, or 5p + 5p =…, 2p + 2p + 2p + 2p =…, 10p + 10p + 10p =…).  Then mix the coins being careful to either count in 2s, 5s or 10s when appropriate or if this is too tricky, just tap the coins to count the value, e.g. tap 5p five times to count it’s value ( 5p + 2p + 2p =…, 10p + 5p + 2p + 1p =…). Do the same with £ coins and notes.  

Below there are different sheets attached with money addition problems. The jar sheet is the best starting point (how-much-in-the-jar). If this is easily completed, try the other sheets (Addition-With-Money). Each sheet is a harder challenge indicated by the stars *, **, *** at the bottom of each page. Start with the one you feel is most appropriate.  

Be careful when adding pounds and coins! Remember 100p is the same as £1.  

We separate the pounds from the pennies with a dot .  Eg £1.20 (this is £1 and 20p)

I was so impressed with all your hard work last week thinking about habitats and how to write instructions on how to make them! Well done! And in our topic learning this term we have become experts on understanding about how to care for a pet and we created some wonderful pet care leaflets!  

This week we are going to dip back into the story of Bog Baby.  We have thought a lot about providing the right environment for animals (and plants) to survive. The story of Bog Baby teaches us about what can happen when we don’t provide living things with the right habitat and care for them correctly.  

Today I’d like you to listen to (or read, if you have the book at home!) the story of Bog Baby again - the link is below. I’d like you to make a note of all the things you learn from the book about bog babies and what they need to thrive. You can use the Bog Baby fact planner sheet to help you make these notes if you prefer.  

I’d like you to consider their appearance (what they look like), their habitat (where they live), their diet (what they eat) and also make a note of special facts about bog babies that are useful to know (eg they can suck their toes!).

Topic   

Let’s look at Animal senses today. Just like humans, other animals have senses that are part of their bodily functions which help them survive and navigate their habitats. Some animals have super senses (compared to humans), for example a dog’s sense of smell is about 40 times better than ours!  

Get your note pads ready! I would like you to watch (and pause) this video https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z2fnvcw and take notes about the different animals and their special or extra strong senses that they need to survive. You can probably think of other animals with heightened senses too.  Keep your eyes peeled, your ears alert and your fingers ready. Noy sure smell has much to do with this task or taste :-)
