Daily challenges: Friday 27th March

Good morning Team Spurrier, 

Well done to everyone for working so hard at home this week. It has been a pleasure to receive emails of your progress and I am very proud of your achievements this week. A big thank you to all the grown ups for their support with the home learning :) 

Here are your challenges for home learning today: 

Maths: Number recognition. Do children know what the name of a number is? (e.g if they saw 13 could they say thirteen) Do they know how many that number represents? (e.g. can you give me thirteen pencils) The teen numbers are especially tricky!

Challenge: To write numbers to 20 in order and out of order. Can you challenge yourself to correctly form each number! 

When we first taught numbers at the start of the year we used a rhyme to help us write each number. I have attached the rhymes for numbers 0-9 to this blog :) 

 

RWI : Here is today's sound for each group. 

Miss Spurrier’s group- ch-chooo (The horse sneezes when the caterpillar’s hairs tickle his nose).  

Words for spelling: chop, chip, chat. 

Sentence: I can chop.  

Miss Taft’s group- t- tower 

Words for blending: top, tap, tin. 

Spelling: tap 

Mrs Barnes’ group- oo- poo at the zoo.  

Words for spelling: poo, zoo, zoom. 

Sentence: The rocket went zoom to the moon.  

Miss Merry’s group- oo- poo at the zoo.  

Words for spelling: zoo, moo, poo. 

Sentence: It went zoom.  

Please record in yellow book. -Two lines of handwriting of the sound with finger spaces, three spellings with the sound in and record the sentence with a capital letter and full stop.  I have attached a photo of how you may want to lay the home learning out in your yellow book.

Topic: Fairytales: Today's story is Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

Challenge: Follow your child's interest in the story and use this as a prompt for a discussion (and further learning) from one of the 3 options below.

1. Discuss the choices and actions of the characters. For example, Goldilocks went into a stranger’s house. Was that a good idea? Why not? Should she have gone into someone’s house without their permission? Talk about the importance of saying sorry. Discuss how the bears felt/reacted to what Goldilocks did. Why? How would you feel? What do you think Goldilocks should say to the Three Bears and why? 

2. Discuss breakfast foods and why it is important to eat breakfast. Encourage the children to talk about what they like to eat for breakfast. Some different breakfast foods could also be tasted, including the Bears’ favourite – porridge 

3. Use the children’s interest in the theme as a springboard to finding out more about bears or forests (this links in nicely to our love to learn challenge). Use books or the Internet to find out information together. 

Extension:Find Goldilocks and the 3 bears home learning in the home learning folder. You can choose an activity to complete. 

Remember family time and play is very important especially during this challenging time! Don't put too much pressure on yourselves or the children with the home learning tasks. We equally love hearing about other activities you have been doing at home like car washing, learning a musical instrument, baking together, playing board games, enjoying some fresh air or playing with siblings.
