Home Learning, Tuesday 2nd June

I hope you all had a wonderful Monday. I was in school today helping to get the classrooms ready for the returning  year groups. It was strange to see them so empty as we cleared out a lot of the tables and chairs. Charlie K joined the Year 5 Key Workers group, hey Charlie, it was great to see you! Read on for your learning for today...

PE: Mrs Horrigan has put up her new PE blog and it is on our Year 5 blog for you to check out. Choose a task every day and get active!

Reading: 'Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth' by Frank Cottrell-Boyce Part 1.

Chapter 1.

  1. How do you think Prez feels, meeting his new family for the Summer?
  2. What seemed odd about Mellows?
  3. Why do you think the family was so excited about Mellows?
  4. Who did Prez think was at the door when he heard the doorbell?

Maths: IALT answer questions about line graphs

This week we will look at some data handling or statistics. We will begin by looking back at line graphs. Do you remember how line graphs show continuous data such as temperature or distance over time? They are very different to bar charts in this respect. I have added a Powerpoint about hot drinks for you and then a set of questions (the answers are there too mums and dads). There are three levels of challenge, from 1 star to 3 stars. I would like you to choose one that will challenge you.

English: Do you remember back in Term 1 when we wrote Octopoems about the Eels from Floodlands? Well, today I'd like you to write another Octopoem, but this time the theme will be an Astronaut! I have attached the structure of Octopoems and it also includes an example. We expanded our Octopoems a little further by making them more descriptive. Octopoems take a subjext and then we write 8 lines about it (Octo - see!).

Topic is a Colour

A season

A place

A type of weather

A type od clothing

A piece of furniture

A TV show or film

A type of food

Topic: Earth and Beyond. I hope your art went well. If you haven;t done it yet then please feel free to look back at yesterday's blog post and have a go! Today it's time for our 'Knowledge Harvest'. So I would like you to think about what you already know, or think you know, about the subject. To help I will give you some headings to think about. You can record your thoughts as a list, a mind-map, or indeed in any way you choose.

  • The structure and features of planet Earth
  • The water cycle
  • The Moon
  • The Moon landing
  • Astronauts
  • The planets in our Solar System
  • The Sun
