We hope you agree that our Christmas production Gnome Alone was a great success and that the children were amazing!!!
Meeting Santa was quite magical and we even recieved treats that had magically appeared in our classroom once we returned. Everyone was on the 'Good' list... except for Ms Aitken!!! She promises to be good all year.
We hope that you had a wonderful festive season and Happy New Year. Lookign forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 7th January to start a new term, a new year and a new decade!!
Please note our Christmas performance is tomorrow (Monday 16th December) at 2pm. Team Aitken parents/families/carers please sit on the left hand side of the hall (nearest the door leading in from the office) as your children will mostly be seated on that side. Team Smart children will be seated on the other side. Our KS1 Christmas party is on Tuesday 17th, so please kindly bring in snacks for the children to enjoy. The sign up sheet is still on the door (or I may have moved it to the notice board because of the wind and rain last week).
School closes on Wednesday 18th at 2pm (no After School Club).
Children throughout the school come together to form rock bands and at the end of each term perform in front of the whole school and their parents. It is an excellent way to learn a new instrument and to play in your very own Rock Band!! It has built the confidence and musical knowledge of each child involved and is such a valuable opportunity. Blue flyers have been sent home recently by Rock Steady for interested parties.
All week we have been working with shape. We can now sort 2D and 3D shapes based on their properties. We also went on a shape hunt around our classroom in search of 2D and 3D shapes. They are everywhere!
Prop making for our Christmas show is well under way!!! We are very excited so please remember to bring in your child's costume (named and in a named bag) this week (preferably Monday or Tuesday ready for dress rehearsals).
Look out for a letter about our KS1 and EYFS Christmas party.
To top off our learning about Victorian Toys and Games as part of our topic this term (Playing Past and Present) we produced some 'Beautiful Work'. The children really enjoyed transferring all their knowledge on to paper and in to their own words. They accompanied this knowledge with some careful illustrations and labels.
We investigated length and height first with non standard units then finally with rulers (cm).
Please enter an introduction for your blog post here.
The children gained hands on experience with real victorian toys, like this Zoetrope. It shows animation in it's early stages which is something we are learning about with Mr Brown in art as part of another project we are working on.
We have kindly been loaned some toys that belonged to one of our colleagues, Mr's Fox and her family. They range from the 1890's to to the late 1990's (ancient to the children!).
This week the children explored the value of our coins and will soon go on to looking at and identifying the different notes that we use for currency in the UK. If and when possible, it would be beneficial for the children to experience paying for small things (like sweets) in cash. This will help deepen their understanding of money and teach them its value. They have had a chance to handle real coins so their ability to identify different coins and the value attached is developing. We have also explored comparing their value and discussing how 100 1pence coins are equal to £1 and that 5p is greater than 2p even though it is the smallest coin of all. This draws on their previous learning about equality and inequality (= > <)
