  • Charlie the Crocodile > < =

    Published 13/11/19, by Isla Aitken

Last week the class showed some real maths muscle with they knowledge of the inequality symbols (< , >  and =). They really understand the language greater than and less than and which symbol to use when comparing numbers.
The story goes, Charlie the Crocodile will only eat the greater (bigger, larger, more than) number so we established that because Miss Aitken is older than Miss Tranhan, that Miss Tranham would be spared!

  • Bug Club online reading resource

    Published 05/11/19, by Isla Aitken

I have spoken to most parents/carers about Bug Club and provided you with your child's log in and username (if I haven't please let me know). If you have any issues accessing the books or the books are not suitable please let me know so that I can look in to it.  While we are a big fan of 'real books' it is important that the children enjoy and get the most out of the reading experience and this resource provides an additional way of motivating them if you are finding they are reluctant. Equally if you are finding your child can't get enough and we simply aren't changing their books quickly enough please feel free to turn to Bug Club to supplement their reading. Each book read on Bug Club also counts towards the '100 Reads' incentive! So please continue to read 3-4 times a week and record each completed book in the reading record. Can I also ask that all reading records be handed in every Friday so that Team Aitken can check them.

  • Enquiring minds!

    Published 02/11/19, by Isla Aitken

At the beginning of each term we explore our school values. This term we are focussing on enquiry and engagement. To combine our topic learning the children had a lot of questions about toys and games from the past. As we engage further with our learning we will be able to answer our questions.

Thank you so much for engaging with our first Love to learn. The children have really developed their understanding of the 'Me and My Place' Topic by creating such wonderful pieces of work. It draws on our learning about family, countries and heritage, all of which we have covered in our topic lessons this term.

  • People that keep us safe in the community.

    Published 16/10/19, by Isla Aitken

Ramsgate Fire Service paid us a visit today. They talked to us about fire safety and to call 999 or 111 only in an emergency. We learnt about the apparatus and tools that they use and the protective clothing that they wear. They don’t just put our fires, they help and rescue people in all sorts of situations. The children asked lots of inquisitive questions. See Below

  • Parent Reading POSTPONED until Term 2

    Published 10/10/19, by Isla Aitken

Team Aitken have the opportunity to 'buddy up' with Team Beraet from year 3 for some valuable reading and story time. This will be taking place on a Friday afternoon for the next two Fridays of this term.  For this reason the 'Open Classroom - reading time' will be postponed until term two at which point a sign up sheet will be issued for parents and carers to sign up to attend the reading session. We understand it is not always possible to attend so we will be providing an alternative location and story time for these children in lieu of a parent/carer attending.
