Postcards from Bonnie Scotland
On Friday we 'visited' another part of the United Kingdom, Scotland, and learnt crucial information, such as Miss Aitken was born in Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. Very important.
Scotland's Highlands and Islands feature a great deal in the children's appreciation of Scotland but no more than the many castles to be found there. The Loch Ness Monster was mentioned and some of us were adamant we spotted old Nessy! We learnt about traditional food (Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, but decided not to try any this time) and clothing (kilts). We listened to the catchy tunes of the bagpipes and admired the prickly beauty of the thistle, Scotland's emblem. Finally we listened to some Gaelic and Doric being spoken, but didn't understand a word. We also spotted how Scotland's flag fits in to the Union Jack.
