Today we are revisiting our learning of adding with number bonds within 10 using part part whole.  

Time to think: Can you tell your grown up what a part part whole is!    

Number bonds are numbers that add together to make another number.  
The parts add together to make the whole. There can be more than 2 parts that make a whole. It is important to understand this relationship and we can use it for inverse (+/-) calculations too. Have a look at the sheet Adding within 10 using part part whole. Have a look at the part part whole and use addition to find the missing part. Can you think of other ways to make 9?  

Then test your understanding of part part whole on the sheet called Year-1-Autumn-Block-2-Step-1-VF-Part-Whole-Model. 

If you fancy testing your problem solving skills try the Reasoning and Problem solving (RPS) sheet called Year-1-Autumn-Block-2-Step-1-RPS-Part-Whole-Model!  
Note: There are 3 levels of difficulty – D, E and GD. The easiest is D and the hardest is GD!

Many picture books are written in a poetic style. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is an example of this. A poem might have rhyming words but not always. A poem is written in verses (short paragraphs or sentences that are linked thematically), it might have words that begin with the same letters (alliteration) or be repetitive. See the ‘Features of Poetry’ word mat for key features of different types of poetry. A poem does not have to have all these features, just a few. 

Can you plan your own poem? You might like to use We’re Going on a Bear Hunt (or another story you know well e.g. The Gruffalo which has poetic features) as inspiration. Your poem should be set in your local area.  

In We’re going on a Bear Hunt the family (characters) trek through fields of grass, a deep cold river, muddy marshes, a big dark forest, a swirling snow storm and finally in to a narrow gloomy cave. 

Think about where you live and make a list of the different natural or urban areas you could set your poem in e.g. the sandy beach, the tall white cliffs, smelly cabbage fields, the park etc. 

You can use the poem plan sheet attached below for all your ideas ready to write them in to a poem tomorrow.
