11/05/2020: Home Learning

Have a wonderfully HAPPY MONDAY!

Hopefully, we all had a great bank holiday weekend and could enjoy the sunshine! Another week of Home Learning. I hope today is lots of fun for us all, especially the Topic task! Chapter 1 of The Greek who stole Christmas is up! Remember, if you want to talk, I am here - don’t forget to send emails/pictures of yourself doing learning/upload to Padlet! Missing you as always! Miss Amin x

Learning for today:

Let’s ditch Rosie and Joe Wicks today for our SPELLING TEST (You’re testing yourself on the words from last week since we missed our Friday test!) When you are done, check out the words for next week (T5W4 in spelling section and below) and have a little practising session.

M: Start with a speedy recap of your 7x. You can do this with a dice game if you have dice, on TTRS, Hit the Button, or you could practise chanting like we do in school?

Today, we are visiting the Associative Law for multiplication. We’ve done lots of questions like this, particularly in our Weekly skills for both addition and multiplication, but now we are going to try to use our knowledge for trickier multiplication questions! Remember, this is just ANOTHER way to approach short multiplication instead of the column method.

Associative law means it doesn't matter how we group numbers from a multiplication as we will get the same answer. So

2 x 4 x 3 = (2x4) x3 = 8x3 = 24

2 x 4 x 3 = (4x3) x 2 = 12x2 = 24

2 x 4 x 3 = (2x3) x 4 = 6x4 = 24

2 x 4 x 3 = (2x4) x3 = (4x3) x 2 = (2x3) x 4  = 24

https://www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/associative-law.html

TASK: Use the associative law to solve these without resorting to column method:

  1. 3 x 4 x 3 =
  2. 5 x 2 x 5 =
  3. 6 x 4 x 3  = (think about rearranging the order so you can work with your 12x)
  4. 4 x 4 x 3 =
  5. 2 x 9 x 5 =

NOW have a crack at a learning sheet attached below. You can pick with star challenge you’d prefer to do, though they are similar.

E: Catch up with the story so far: I have added to it. Finish listening to Part 2 atleast today as learning tasks this week move into Part 3 of the story. The whole picture book can be found in the Clockwork folder online.

We haven’t done this in a while so today is journal entry day: What has happened over the past few days/weeks for you? What did you do over the weekend? How are you feeling? Have you done any exciting learning? Are you enjoying our new core text?? What are you most looking forward too after lockdown ends? Have you helped out at home?

RWInc: Mrs Fox has set you a new text this week: Save the Whale! Have a read of the story and go through the spellings. Mrs Fox has set your learning task for today attached below. I’d love to see your hand made word cards. Don’t forget to send us pictures of your learning!

TOPIC: Have you enjoyed the rainforest learning so far? I hope you have? Recall three things you have learnt? Better yet, 3 things about the Amazon rainforest!

Today’s task should, hopefully, be lots of fun! I want you to try your hand at becoming GAME INVENTORS! So, you are going to create a rainforest themed board game. You could design your own game process or take your inspiration from the likes of Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly, Ludo etc. I have attached some examples below. But you do need to think about:

  1. A rainforest themed background filled with NEW animals that you have learnt about this week/in your research (Think white bellied spider monkey!)
  2. Dice (Don’t have any? Create your own! – think CUBE) (Find attached cut out if you want it
  3. Objects to move? (Like the cute hat and thimble in Monopoly)
  4. A start/go space (Will you have a collect 200 bananas when you pass go?)
  5. A strong board! Will paper be too flimsy? Could you use card/cardboard, or make your paper board strong by sticking a few sheets on top of each other?
  6. Really going for it? A board game also need a BOX for packaging!

Take lots of pictures, write your rules of the game and send me pictures! Maybe weekday night games today can involve your new BOARD GAME.

Extra activities:

R: Access Powerpoint and listen along to The Diamond Brothers and/or read a chapter of a book of your choice. I have finished the story and have uploaded the first chapter of our next story!

Help out at home: Find your adult and see how you can help make their day a little better? Can you fold some clothes? Unload the dishwasher?

Happy learning x
